| - Substrates and
their Preparation: |
The Fresco Finishes
can adhere to nearly any kind of substrate. Sometimes
they require a previous application
of a specific primer. On sub-standard or suspicious
substrates, the application of a layer of PANACEA,
our universal
wall-filler and surface equalizer, is recommended.
In our “Book of preparation”, every possible
substrate has been thoroughly covered. A corresponding
specification sheet can be downloaded from this website
which will guide the installer through a step by step
process. Contractors and architects can also download
their own technical sheets to help them through their
specification process. |
| |
| - Samples and how
to order them: |
Standard samples can be ordered from
the applicator, using the Arkeos color chart. Obviously,
a single application of a Chaux Ferree will be done swifter
than a say, 3 or 4 coats Badigeon. In any case, using
standard colors will help speed up the process of finalizing
the sample for a specific project. Choosing an intermediary
color can be considered standard.
In some cases the applicant or the distributor may
offer custom samples to their client, as a separate
service.
It should be understood that since this is a much more
creative process, the time needed to achieve the desired
look can take considerably more time and that a specific
charge may apply.
Professionals with an eye for colors will feel much
more at ease when ordering multi-layer samples than
others. They could even specify which color they want
for each coat. When choosing a color and a texture,
always have in mind that lighting is essential and
that the final color should be decided on site. We
do not recommend making samples on the wall itself
but on a board which will be easily transported from
a corner of the room to another to test the different
quality of light throughout the day and space. Trying
to match a glossy or even eggshell finish to a piece
of cloth can also be tricky as both will not absorb
light in the same fashion.
The Fresco Finishes are very sensitive to their environment
and their color and texture will vary throughout the
day, much more than say, fabric or matt paint. The
change of light due to the sun rising or setting will
be enhanced for instance in every room treated with
our finishes. Also, artificial light will soften the
texture and tone down the color while daylight will
reveal the intricacy of the texture and augment the
intensity of the colors.

| - Strength/Advantages |
Why going for the Fresco Finishes? Here
is a list of sensible arguments that could answer this
legitimate question: |
-
The Fresco Finishes have been created
by artists to be used by other artists and decorators.
-
They represent the fruit of cooperation between
reputed artists and scientists.
-
They are unique
in their ability to super-impose a multitude of multicolor
and translucent layers
-
Their curing time has been
delayed up to 24 hours (see under “applications”)
so the textures can be easily made seamless, even
on
huge surfaces.
-
The thickness of the finishes and the intricacy
of their texture make them much easier to
repair than other bulky,
rigid and plain textures.
-
Once cured, they become extremely strong
and resistant to most common wear
-
If the preparation is adequate and the
steps are carefully followed, the Fresco
Finishes
have the
best ratio between
rapidity of execution and artistic result
on the market.
-
The Fresco Finishes are 90% made of
natural ingredients. And the end result
is there
to prove it.
-
They are odorless, contain no harmful
chemicals and have a very low AOC
-
They can be made in any colors although
using one of the more than 300
standard shades available
will certainly
expedite the process.
-
The Fresco Finishes are the
most versatile veneer plasters on
the market. They
are also highly
adaptable to any
style of décor and show
a myriad of possible applications.
-
They can be extremely luxurious
looking and for this reason
have been created
mainly for
residential
projects,
although their technical specifications
make them perfectly acceptable
for more commercial
high end
projects as well.
-
They have the right thickness:
thin enough to make their
application and repairs uncomplicated
and effortless
and thick enough to make
them strong, robust and hide most
imperfections
of the substrate.
-
They can be given any sheen,
from matt to high gloss.
-
They are easily recoverable,
in case of change of
mind. Also their
color
can be
easily adjusted
by adding another
translucent layer of
the required new shade.
-
Their maintenance is
simple and minimum

| - Repairs/Maintenance
of finishes |
The Fresco Finishes have such an intricacy
of texture that it makes repairs much easier than say,
lacquer paint or a glossy Venetian stucco. We have in
place repair procedures that, if properly followed, should
make them invisible to the naked eye. Nevertheless, it
is still recommended, prior their installation, to check
with the owner or the contractor of the project that
all electrical plates are final, that baseboards, mouldings,
flooring, are in place and all painting and woodwork
completed. In fact they should understand and accept
that the Fresco Finishes should be the last touch to
the room just before the hanging of the curtains and
the laying of the carpets, if any. Fresco finishes are
fast to install and do not require any messy procedure
like sanding.
Similarly, the maintenance of the Fresco Finishes is
minimum. The Fresco Finishes are naturally water resistant
but an application of our specially formulated sealer
PALASEAL is recommended: it is a swift and economical
process that will render the finishes stain-proof and
washable, yet let the finish breath (see “environmental
characteristics”). The use of abrasive and harsh
chemical cleaning products is not recommended to clean
our finishes. A soft cotton cloth and soapy water is
quite sufficient.

| |
| - Environmental advantages and safety
concerns |
The company is using the full potential
of technological advances in communication technology
to reduce the environmental impact of its development.
The blending of our products is made as close as possible
to the extraction point of its natural ingredients.
An enormous downside of most
chemical paints is their lack of breathing property.
They “lock” the
surface of the wall and do not permit any exchange
of vapor, thus trapping any humidity resulting from
leaks,
cracks or seepage from the ground. After few years,
sometimes less, the paint crackle and then peels
off the wall,
concrete or cement decay and squalid odors appear.
Their effect on the environment is also quite negative
during
their manufacturing, during their application and
after being discarded. They can provoke allergies
or more
serious illnesses to some of the residents.
On the contrary, the Fresco Finishes and similar
natural products will let the wall breathe and
create a natural
exchange of vapor contained in the air. This will
dramatically prolong the life of the substrate
and avoid all of the
ailment described above .
Our products may contain lime
which in one hand purifies the air and repels some
insects but
on another hand
may cause excessive dryness on the applicator’s
skin. A specialized moisterizing cream can be
used to quickly
resolve the problem. It is however recommended
to wear gloves at all times when touching the
product and to
wear a mask and goggles when manipulating or
mixing the pulverized products.
|
| |
| - Colors and modifications
of colors |
Our tints are of the highest quality,
made either in Germany or Holland. They are mineral based
and do not fade unless under direct and intense sunlight
(as ALL colors do: anti-UV treatment will only slow down
the process).
Our color charts have been carefully created by reputed
artists and decorators to reflect classical and contemporary
trends.
|
| |
| - Color Chart: |
There are 70 basic colours for the Fresco
Finishes (please order here). They might change slightly
according to the techniques and products use. For instance
a color used with Chaux Ferree will appear darker after
super-imposing a thin layer of Badigeon. |
| |
| - Other additional palettes of colors
available: |
- light colors, beige to grey
- Pastels |
